Publisher’s Note - Summer Issue 2026
Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer. With the warm months stretched before us, we have lots of options for entertaining ourselves – camping, floating the river, fishing, hiking, attending rodeos, farmers markets and county fairs. Now, if we just allow ourselves the time to enjoy!
We feel incredibly blessed by the lifestyle we enjoy as Americans and we don’t take that lightly. The ultimate sacrifice that so many have made in the name of freedom over the course of the last 250 years is something none of us should ever take for granted.
Towns and communities across the country are taking part in our nation’s celebration throughout the summer. It’s a historical time in our lives and we hope you make fond memories as you celebrate.
In honoring our nation’s 250th birthday, the theme woven throughout this issue is both historical and patriotic. We explored the historical side of some very interesting subjects that we think you’ll enjoy.
We met a young man from Huntley, Cole Bechtold, who joined the Army National Guard fresh out of high school and was just named the 2026 Montana Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition – Soldier of the Year. His dedication and love of God, Country, Family and the Military is inspiring.
In keeping with the historical theme in this issue, Stu takes a dive into the history of the Declaration of Independence and the story behind it. We also cover interesting facts about Lewis & Clark’s Expedition and the Old North Trail. We feature the history behind the Cody Nite Rodeo, and we visit with folks who are passionate about the restoration of antique vehicles.
Jean gives us tips on how to plan meals while keeping a busy summer schedule and we include a local business guide on things to do and businesses to support this summer. Lastly, be sure to check out our Summer Calendar of Events – reference it throughout the summer so you don’t miss out on fun things to do.
If you’re new to grabbing RITW at one of our distribution spots we also have every issue available on our website in its entirety. Check it out: raisedinthewest.com. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram as we like to entertain our readers through both platforms.
Have a great summer, be safe and while you’re celebrating our nation, be sure to thank a veteran. Without them, we would not be the great nation that we are!
“For you are called to freedom, brothers and sisters. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love, serve on another.” Galatians 5: 13 - 14
